A colourful antique Victorian Harlequin brooch depicting a 15ct gold scorpion with a rainbow of glistening gemstones chasing down his back and tail. The gems include purple amethysts, red garnets, golden citrines, blue zircons and two pink ruby eyes.
Harlequin jewellery is named after the colourful costumes of the 16th century comedy actors of the same name. The style was popular during the 19th Century and saw wonderful pieces of jewellery abundantly decorated in coloured gemstones.
The piece dates to the late 19th Century and has remained in excellent condition. A fantastic antique collector’s piece showcasing a dazzling assortment of gems on top.
