The belt-driven agitators used to mix pulverised ore in a solution containing foaming agents, enabling mineral separation and concentration of the ore before the cleaning and scavenging process. I'm not sure how old these cells are, but the timber construction suggests they well and truly predate modern design.

Unframed and Framed Prints.
