Sweet Tasting Peaches Perfect for Warm Southern Climates

The Gulf Crimson Peach tree is the answer to every sweet tooth’s quest! Perfect for peach pie or cobbler. They taste divine!

The Gulf Crimson peach tree offers deliciously sweet fruit that is large in size and has deep yellow-red flesh and will ripen beginning in mid-May through early June. This peach cultivar is and requires around 400 hours of winter chill hours.

The Prunus persica Crimson Gulf is exceptionally vigorous and features beautifully pale pink blooms. The peach tree was developed by the Agricultural Research Service in cooperation with the University of Georgia and the University of Florida to provide growers living in lower-chill areas the opportunity to provide fresh, early-season peaches.

It developed in a joint breeding program to create the ‘Gulf’ series of peaches. The yellow flesh of these peaches is called ‘non-melting’ which gives the opportunity for the fruit to ripen on the tree. The skin stays firmer which in turn lets the peach sweeten longer and have better quality and storage life. These tree ripened peaches are clingstone.

How to Care for Gulf Crimson Peach Trees Bought Online

Grow this variety of peach in the department of agriculture plant hardiness zones 8-10. Perfect for the southern United States! The fruit tree needs full sun to perform best and produce tons of peaches! The growing conditions for this peach fruit tree are not picky but should be followed if you want plentiful peaches!

This disease-resistant fruit tree can grow up to 12-18 feet tall and 10-12 feet wide. When the peach is a young tree, the tree may bear smaller fruits. Not to fret, the crimson peach will grow quickly up to 1 foot per year.

When planting your peach tree, dig a hole double the size of the container it came in. Place the center of the tree in the hole and backfill it with soil. Water thoroughly during the first year of planting to establish a strong root system.

An annual application of slow release or 10-10-10 fertilizer at the top of the root ball will help encourage new growth and baby peach blossoms each early spring. Prune annually in winter for diseased or dead branches. Thin the fruit on mature trees to 3 fruit per branch. You may risk losing your peach fruit if the side branch is too heavy.

These are not bare-root trees. They ship rooted in a nursery container in the soil for the health of the tree. Enjoy homegrown fresh peaches in the first year of planting during the early summer months.
