Original Item: Only One Set Available. This USN World War Two Chief Petty Officer Winter Uniform is featured on page 260 in the book U. S. Naval Aviation Flying Clothing and Gear, U. S. Navy Uniforms in World War II Series Volume 2 by Jeff Warner. In fact this piece was purchased by IMA from the estate of Mr. Warner along with much of his personal collection.

The chief petty officer's winter working uniform. When this uniform was introduced, ratings badges and other cloth insignia was manufactured on a background to match the uniform. The first rating badges featured scarlet red chevrons and white or silver bullion eagles and specialty marks. Service stripes and distinguishing marks were red as well. This detail shows the first type rating badge for wear on the forest green uniform with scarlet red chevrons. Note also the ribbons for Distinguished Flying Cross; European Theater and American Defense. The wearer of this uniform was most likely a member of an aircrew, however, the Air Crew wings were not introduced until 1943. (J. Warner)
