Why We Love It

There are vintage watches, there are modern watches, and then there's the Rolex Submariner Reference 14060.  

It's 39mm robust Oyster case features a glossy black 'Swiss only' dial. Significant because Swiss only dials are gaining traction amongst collectors because these are essentially transitional dials that were used for a short period of time. Estimates believe that these Swiss only dials were produced from roughly 1998 to 2000. Featuring an automatic bracelet and a sport Oyster bracelet, this is a tool watch, meant to be enjoyed on a daily basis. 

This 14060 from 1999 is fresh out of service and ready for its next adventure! 

The Story

Being the successor to the Reference 5513, the 14060 eschews the date window, giving the dial a symmetry that was lost with the Reference 1680 and 16800. Since the Reference 14060 was released prior to the 2000s, when Rolex achieved COSC certification for the Calibre 3130, the language usually seen on modern Submariners ("Superlative Chronometer, Officially Certified") is missing as well. Another plus is the presence of tritium on some examples, since Rolex--along with much of the Swiss watch industry--switched over to Luminova after the 14060 was released.
